Arthritis affects millions of individuals around the world and their lives have changed by the sometimes constant pain of inflamed joints. World Arthritis Day is a day to remember and raise awareness of this condition, and how it affects the lives of those that suffer with it.
Arthritis is cleanly summed up in it’s name, being derived from the greek words arthro, meaning joint, and itis, meaning inflammation. Arthritis means the inflammation of joints. An inflammed joint is usually red, swollen, warm and painful. Arthritis is not a single condition, unlike the common conception that it is a disease.
There are more than 120 different types of Arthritis, which may affect one or more joints in the body. It is not an old age disease. While evidence supports that those over 65 are in fact the primary sufferers, but there is an often forgotten section of people who are under this age who are also affected by this condition. Anyone from as young as 6 months old may develop arthritis. Gout, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, and Lupus are just some of the more common causes of this painful and often crippling condition.
One effective way to manage the pain and disability associated with arthritis is to keep the joint mobile. A mobile and flexible joint helps to reduce the constant inflammation and has shown marked improvements in the long-term relief of the pain associated with it. Equally important is the nutritional support one gets to manage the level of inflammation in the body, avoiding it to aggressively and continually attacking the affected joints.
