Migraine Headache and Chiropractic is one of the most researched topic in the profession. You can probably notice from the previous article that the quality of a particular research study is reflected on the level it ranks in the hierarchy of research. Chiropractic treatment for migraine headache is strongly supported by various level of research study. Presenting to you is a randomised controlled trial of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy for migraine.

Migraine Headache in Macquarie University

It was a study in Macquarie University with a group of volunteer involved in the treatment process. One hundred twenty-seven volunteers between the ages of 10-70 years participated in the study hrough media advertising. The diagnosis of migraine was made on the basis of the International Headache Society standard.  The criteria was a minimum of at least one migraine per month. The treatment and study lasted for 2 months with Chiropractic Spinal Manipulative Therapy. Also, a 6-months follow up was carried out to test the benefits they gained from the treatment.

Their responses to the treatment were recorded. These included the frequency, intensity, duration, disability, associated symptoms and medication usage for each migraine episode. From the study, we observed significant improvement of all the parameters in the study, These findings were documented as the outcome results following Chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy.

In my personal opinion, the improvements for 6-months follow up is the long term benefits of Chiropractic care. 6 months after the cessation of the study was a very convincing evidence. In conclusion, it shows how these volunteers had really benefited from chiropractic healing. So, as the conclusion of the study states, it is a supportive documentation that chiropractic treatment is effective in the management for migraine sufferers. However, bigger population study will of course be better and assuring evidence. Hence, we shall explore more in our future post on what other high level researches are there available. This is very important as it validate and support the approach of chiropractic care for migraine subjects.
