Chiropractic has been around for more than a century. It is now the largest alternative healthcare profession serving millions of people around the world. In conjunction with the celebration of Chiropractic Founder’s Day, let us take you to understand a little further about the history of this wonderful profession.

18th September 1895 is a landmark date for the profession. It commemorates when Dr. Daniel David Palmer administered the first specific chiropractic adjustment on his patient, Harvey Lillard.  And that marked the beginning of the study of Chiropractic. Similarly, it was on this special day in September 121 years ago, a momentous shift in healthcare took place. With the beginnings of the unique, distinct healing art, philosophy and science we now know of as Chiropractic.

DD Palmer was a pioneering clinician located in Davenport, Iowa. The first chiropractic adjustment on his patient Harvey Lillard became the historic event in the profession. This historic first adjustment was one with a specific intention of realigning a malpositioned vertebra on the patient, restoring its normal position; Harvey Lillard, who had lost most of his hearing 17 years earlier.

Sure enough, Harvey Lillard subsequently found his hearing slowly improved, and that Dr. Palmer thought he have found the cure for deaf. However, as chiropractic continues to develop it was discovered that the chiropractic adjustment had an effect on the entire nervous system. Following that transforming breakthrough, D.D. Palmer started his in-depth study into the science, art, and philosophy of this healing method. Since then, the profession of chiropractic developed, growing into the unique, drug-less and distinct doctor-level health care profession helping millions of patients around the world.

Happy Birthday Chiropractic and we wish to continue inspire the communities around the globe with a better and efficient healthcare system that serves to improve quality of everyday’s life.

” There is a vast difference between treating effects and adjusting cause” –
DD Palmer.
